In this program, the viewer will see actual behaviors of residents documented in long term care which include: violent and oppositional behaviors, calling out, and extreme delusional thinking. By sharing these behaviors, trainers and educators can guide students and staff in developing positive therapeutic approaches to prevent these behaviors from happening whenever possible and to develop the necessary tools to respond professionally, minimizing the potential for escalating.
This program was filmed when residents with “difficult behaviors” were often restrained which is now recognized to violate the rights of residents and be negative to their well being.
Topics: Agitation, refusal of care, calling out, repetitive behavior, catastrophic reactions
Audience: Allied health training programs, long-term care inservice training
